Indian church calls for Covid day of prayer on Friday 7 May

The Covid-19 crisis in India has reached dire levels, with almost 20 million infections recorded to date and the situation rapidly worsening. Hospitals have increasingly limited facilities and medical supplies to cope with the numbers. Our Indian church family have called for Friday 7 May to be a day of prayer and fasting for India, trusting in God’s power, mercy and love. Please join them in praying for God’s healing intervention in this crisis.

Will you join the worldwide church on Friday as we lift India to the Lord in prayer?

The Covid-19 situation in India has reached an alarming peak: almost 20 million infections have been recorded to date and experts say that the number is far higher than the official records. Open Doors partners, volunteers and their families have also been affected; some are in a critical condition, and a few have sadly also passed away.

Open Doors partner, Brother Solomon (whose name has been changed to protect his identity), shares: “The virus has been spreading rapidly in the rural areas like small towns and villages where the medical facilities are almost negligible – this can lead to high mortality rates in these areas.”

Brother Solomon is especially grateful for your prayers: “We really praise God and thank all who are praying for India. Twelve of our partners and their family members have recovered from Covid. Please continue to pray, as some of the partners have lost their loved ones and are in great pain. Around 35 of the partners and their family members are still recovering from Covid and two of them are on oxygen support.”

The Bible tells us we can approach God with boldness and that He is not unfeeling towards us: “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Let us pray for the Lord’s healing, peace, and comfort to be with all those who are ill and are grieving lost loved ones and join us on Friday 7 May to continue to uphold India in prayer.

How should I pray?

Please pray:

  • For the sick and suffering, that they would be healed, and that God would comfort those who are grieving
  • For the Lord to sustain India’s hospitals and to provide sufficient supply of the needed medicine, ventilators, and oxygen
  • For India’s government and health system – the health system is strained, hospitals are over capacity, and many are suffering without sufficient treatment
  • For Open Doors partners in India as they distribute food aid and provide spiritual encouragement to our persecuted brothers and sisters.

Please pray

Heavenly Father, we know that You desperately long to reconcile the world to Yourself and establish Your kingdom. We pray You would pour out Your healing on India today. Heal the sick, comfort the grieving, and bring an end to the Covid crisis. Strengthen Open Doors partners who continue to minister to the suffering and those who grieve. Please provide for all those in need – oxygen, ventilators and food. We ask all this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
